Ride Your Motorcycle Week starts today and Australian riders nationwide are revving up and taking part in the annual initiative prompting motorcyclists to shake off lockdown and get back on the bike.
Running November 29 to December 5 the campaign asks riders dust off their motorcycles, scooters, dirt bikes or choice of motorised two-wheeled transport, get them serviced and hit the road, track or trail.
2021 marks the campaigns fifth anniversary. The initiative is proud to have the support of recently crowned World Champion racer Remy Gardner, son of World Champion racer Wayne Gardner.
“It’s going to be ripper riding summer so make sure your bike is safe and ride ready. Head to your local dealer, get serviced and get back on your bike,” said Remy.
“Plan an adventure, come in late, leave early. Whatever you have to do get out and ride. If your boss has any worries, get them to give me a call!”
FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber says Ride Your Motorcycle Week’s goal is simply explained.
“We want riders to enjoy riding.” he said
“The pandemic has strained our collective mental health. Getting back on your bike is a proven way to manage stress, reconnect with friends and get back into the world. Studies have shown riding stimulates your mind and can help keep you fit, focused and even improves cognitive function as you age.”
The event also aims to draw attention to two-wheeled transport as a potential solution in COVID-19 recovery.
“Riding has a real role to play in helping Australia get back to work, offering socially distanced transportation and alleviating congestion and parking issues,” said Mr Weber.

Are you ready to be part of a genuine mechanised two-wheeled movement right across the nation? From 29 November to 5 December, it’s National Ride Your Motorcycle To Work Week 2020.
This is an industry initiative aimed at getting you back on your motorcycle, and helping get your ready-to-ride hassles sorted in readiness for a long summer of riding enjoyment.
Australia’s motorcycle importers have come together as an industry, with the backing of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), to support an initiative which encourages licensed motorcycle owners to ride their registered motorcycle to work in the week of 29 November to through to 5 December, and then hopefully continue on that journey into summer.
Many riders who love motorcycling will be familiar with the concept of riding your motorcycle, either for pleasure or to commute through the months of favourable weather, then after getting cold and wet as winter approaches, parking it up and taking alternative transport during the inclement weather.
But the issue you know and detest is that you are then bound by public transport timetables, or stuck on over-crowded busses trams or trains, or even worse being stuck in endless traffic jams as part of the morning and evening peaks.
Over the winter you can tolerate the inconvenience until you can stand it no longer.
It’s now time to get back on that bike and enjoy the freedom of leaving when you want to, travelling past those long lines of stationary cars, and parking for free right outside your destination . . .
Motorcycle dealerships around the country are ready, willing and able to play their role in getting you back on your bike, safely and easily.
They will check your motorcycle over, or steer you in the right direction for rider training, or kit you out in the latest gear; anything and everything to help you get back on the motorcycle and commuting to and from work.
Check out our website, upload your images, or organise a group event, and encourage your friends and family to join in this nationwide event.
Whatever you do, Ride Your Motorcycle to Work in the week of 29 November to 5 December 2021.
Just two words: solidarity and safety..
By joining our National Ride your Motorcycle to Work Week, you are joining a motorcycle fraternity in which thousands of people are active participants. That’s a lot of people power.
The more people who ride, the more we are noticed. And that makes the public road a safer place for all of us.
Rider safety is an industry priority. That’s why before you take your bike out of its winter “mothballs”, they are recommending it receives the once-over from your authorised dealer. Because no-one (apart from you) knows your bike better and has all the factory-backed expertise to have your machine in tip-top shape for the long summer of riding ahead.
Note the September date and make your plans. Send us a photo of you and your bike. Talk to your local dealer about booking a pre-event service and safety inspection. Who else at your work rides a motorcycle? Who else in your building? How about linking up on the way and riding to work together?
